Paris attacker was known to cops as a terror threat
French authorities say the man who rammed a car full of explosives into a police van on the Champs-Elysees on Monday was already flagged as a potential terrorist, according to reports.
The attacker was a 31-year-old man from the Paris suburb of Argenteuil who has an “S” file — which means cops believed he had possible ties to extremism, officials told the AP.
The man died in the collision, police said.
Paris has been under a state of emergency since 2015 after a spate of jihadist attacks — including one on the Champs-Elysees just two months ago, when terrorists killed a cop and wounded two others.
The designation is set to expire next month, but Interior Minister Gerard Collomb says Monday’s attack shows it is “still needed” and he’ll now introduce a bill to extend it to November, the AP reports.
