StandWithUs Canada Strongly Condemns University of Toronto’s Gradutate Student Union Vote Endorsing BDS
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
StandWithUs Condemns Discriminatory Boycott/Divestment resolution at University of Toronto (U of T) tonight.
StandWithUs Canada condemns the passage of a discriminatory BDS (boycott, divestment, sanctions) vote of the Grad Students union committee against Israel. It passed with a vote of 102 in favour, 58 against.
“Thanks to all of the amazing students who stood up for Israel and reached out to many of their peers, despite facing a discriminatory BDS committee at the University of Toronto”, said Rebecca Katzman, StandWithUs Canada Campus Coordinator. “It is deeply disturbing that University of Toronto Grad students will now promote a committee of hate against Israel”.
In a meeting that student leaders called ‘a sham’, the committee went straight to voting, with no opportunity for discussion.
“The Grad Students union BDS Committee, and others like it on campuses across Canada, entrench opposing viewpoints and create division on campus. They are anti-peace, and are a terrible use of student union dollars and student union time.”, said Dean Lavi, first year U of T Munk school grad.
StandWithUs will continue to work with our partners at Hillel Ontario and CIJA to support the Jewish and pro-Israel community at University of Toronto as they fight bigotry and tell Israel’s story on campus.
